I often get asked what my song selection process is for corporate gatherings; why do I pick them? How do I pick them?

Let me tell you that this is an ongoing journey for me, as my relationship with the Lord deepens and matures, what I focus on also changes. Consider these verses from 2 Corinthians 3: 16-18, “16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

There’s so much beauty in knowing that as soon as we turn to the Lord, there is no more division or separation from Him! The verse I want to highlight is verse 18. I believe this shows us that as we behold and worship Jesus, we are becoming more and more like Him.

Becoming what we worship, is key to song selection. I love to sing songs about the goodness of God, His ability to heal, His faithfulness and most importantly His never-ending love. It’s imperative that we only sing songs that declare a true image of who God is and His nature, and what we want to become.

Sing and declare the things you want to see in your church, your home, your city and you life. If you have a small congregation, then declare that there are thousands of people following Jesus. if there are strong religious communities in your vicinity, then declare that there is no other God but Jesus. If death and sickness appears in your family then declare that the blood of Jesus always heals. It’s often said that your praise, confuses the enemy, but let’s forget him for a moment, and stop making him more powerful than he is!

The more you stare into the face of our beloved Saviour, is the more you will begin to look and become like Him. Sing songs that are prophetic, sing songs about what you want to see, and watch things change in your life.

Jesus has no choice but to show up and change us from the inside out, because He’s always faithful and does what He promised.
